A magnitude-6.4 earthquake hit northern Japan, but there was no tsunami warning.

A quake with a magnitude of 6.4 has rattled northern Japan – but there was no danger of a tsunami, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.The quake occurred off the coast of Iwate, 310 miles north of Tokyo.The centre was 19 miles below the sea surface. There were no reports of damage.
Japan is one of the world’s most earthquake-prone countries. Residents routinely hold drills to prepare for major earthquakes.
