An American Airlines flight has been grounded on the tarmac and then moved to a secure area at San Francisco International Airport

American Airlines Flight 24 was supposed to take off at 7:30 a. m. local time and headed to New York's John F. Kennedy Airport, but has been sitting on the tarmac at SFO for several hours, the ABC7 television channel said in a report.

A passenger on the plane was quoted as saying that they were told by the pilot that police had received a security threat.

The passengers are expected to be taken off the plane by law enforcement officers and rescreened by the Transportation Security Administration.
