A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Southern California Monday evening
The earthquake struck a remote part of southern California, near the border with Mexico.The quake was centered at the U.S.-Mexico border about 23 miles from El Centro, about 5 miles (9 km) southeast of Ocotillo, California, and occurred at 0426 GMT. It was felt in San Diego on the western coast of California.
Originally reported as a 5.9 magnitude, it has since been downgraded to a 5.7.There have been no damage or injury reports.
At least 20 aftershocks have followed, the highest being a 4.1 magnitude.
