At five to 2 this morning (Friday) South Western Ambulance Control contacted Brixham Coastguard to advise them that a cave had collapsed at Landcombe Cove
Teenagers were believed to be injured and trapped.
Brixham Coastguard tasked Dartmouth and Prawle Point Coastguard Rescue Teams, scrambled RAF Helicopter 169 from Chivenor and requested the launch of Dartmouth RNLI Inshore Lifeboat and Torbay RNLI All Weather Lifeboat. Ambulance and Police teams are also on scene.
Once on scene they found that one teenager (16) had suffered serious leg injuries through being crushed by a large falling boulder. A second teenager had suffered leg injuries along with cuts and bruises, and the third who had originally been reported missing was located safe and well.
Torbay Coastguard Rescue Team prepared a landing near Torbay Hospital for the RAF Helicopter and they were met by Ambulance personnel.
Brixham Coastguard Watch Manager Zoe Boyne said:
Six teenagers were enjoying a small party on the beach at Landcombe Cove in the early hours of this morning when a collapse in the cave that they were in left two injured and one missing.
The local Coastguard teams lifted a large boulder off one casualty and assisted Paramedics with the treatment of the casualties. Both Lifeboats provided lighting and transportation to this isolated area. The helicopter crew evacuated the two injured casualties to Torbay Hospital for treatment
